The CPU Wars: "The Brain of the Computer"

Following is a little article I wrote up back in 2018 for my college magazine. I was 16/17 and stupid, today kids are busy raising millions for startup but I was just figuring out coding, ego-fighting with friends and trying to get a girl out of pure FOMO and status back in college.
So yeah this blog has a lot of grammar mistakes, but I intend to keep it as is because it would be fun to read this later and hey in todays world where everything is heavily moderated using AI tools, its good to have some raw unedited content too. hehe.

CPU (Well every knows it)

CPU (Central Processing Unit) the brain of the computer. There are tons of CPU manufacturers on this earth.

For small microcomputer we have got ARM CPUs famous manufacturers are Intel and Broadcom. Then for Traditional Computers use x32, x64, x86 architecture processors manufactured by both Intel and AMD (Both are in tough Competition) and for smart phones there some of the best are Apple A12X Bionic, HiSilicon Kirin, Samsung Exynos, Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek Helio

The Traditional Computer CPU wars

Every time Intel and AMD got a really tough competition. When Intel first started out with their CPUs they were all time fast after a generation or two AMD started their own league of really great processors. A war between Intel’s Core and Xeon vs AMD’s Ryzen and Threadripper. This war still continues with Intel releasing some cheap and expensive CPU’s every six months.

Now AMD had a huge part as for the gamers started to fall in love with the cheap speedy AMD Ryzen Processors. But on the developer part AMD never gave those epic Intel Technologies on their CPU’s. So the developer community stayed with Intel CPU’s forever.

The number of gamers is more than that of the developers. Intel thought that they could get many gamers by having a partnership with AMD to create there 8th gen core processors. The 8th gen processors where having an integrated AMD powered Graphics. Well in one point of view it did work because we could play GTA 5 at minimum settings using one these higher core CPU’s. And there were many who were diehard fans (am one of them, in fact I hate the whole AMD segment of GPU’s and CPU’s) of Intel only processors they just hated the whole idea of adding a little of AMD graphics to Intel processors. This idea was going to be a failure but Intel then Dropped the prices also the base core speeds and also did a lot of laptops started to get it market with these 8th gen CPU’s. Because people could play their favorite games on a laptop without a graphics card which had lesser price.

Then came the special 9th gen Intel CPU’s ripping of Hyper-Threading feature because maybe they felt that they didn’t need it as their CPU’s were fast enough. i9-9900KF is the one currently available in the market this one being the best one. A rumored Intel Core i9-9990XE is said to come with good speeds, extra cores and awesomeness. These i9 9th gen CPU’s changed the way people decided to buy a CPU they started being the one both developers and gamers preferred.

There are different post-fix letters used while showcasing Intel CPU’s some of them are U/M – Low power, Mobile Performance, K – Unlocked Multiplexer for Over clockers, X – Extreme, Unlocked, XE – Extreme Edition, Unlocked, F – Graphics Less, G – Better high-performance graphics.

But bigger community Gamers friend AMD having a competition between Nvidia over GPU’s and Intel over CPU’s gave them a direct answer brought the new AMD 3rd gen Ryzen processor said to be faster and thinner than Intel’s latest offering and also brought an AMD Radeon VII GPU competing with RTX graphics. And these things go on like AMD and Intel producing a dozen of new CPU’s every year.

Well for me every time Intel and Nvidia wins, Intel just released their i3 9th gen F CPU and Nvidia releasing some cheap RTX 2060 3GB GDDR6 GPU. It’s just an awesome combination right. We could also make stuff super high with an Intel i9-9990XE + Nvidia Quadro RTX 8000

The computer geeks and enthusiasts are never happy with speeds they get from the latest powerful CPU’s. And did you know that India is on the way to create its own CPU codenamed Shakti. First India got a prototyped Shakti from Intel its size was 22nm now when India started to manufacture it its size became 120nm. It’s just too large. And India also started to work on a Para-Shakti (not paranormal shakti) it’s Parallel Shakti, simply stacking one shakti over the other (should have named it Double-Shakti!).
